Shelbyville Parks & Recreation Free Bike Share Program

2026 season scheduled to begin March 1, 2026- weather permitting.

The City of Shelbyville Parks & Recreation Free Bike Share Program provides residents and visitors with a convenient, eco-friendly way to explore the community. This initiative is made possible through partnerships with the Shelbyville Parks & Recreation Department, City of Shelbyville, Blue River Community Foundation, Shelby County Tourism & Visitors Bureau, MHP Major Health Partners Foundation, and Duke Energy.

Bikes are available at three docking stations across Shelbyville:

1. Trail Head at Knauf Greenway

2. Downtown Shelbyville Public Square(Sidewalk between Fifth-Third Bank and Mainstreet Shelbyville Inc.)

3. Blue River Memorial Park(Adjacent to the Splash Pad and Pavilion)


Program Details

The program is free to use and open to individuals aged 18 and older. The first fleet consists of 15 bicycles and operates between 5:00 AM and 8:00 PM daily.

  1. Download the On Bike Share App
    Manage your ride through the app, which enables users to view available bikes, unlock them, and track rides.
  2. Secure a Bike

    • Enter credit or debit card information to secure the bike.
    • Sign a waiver accepting responsibility for the bike during your ride.
  3. Choose and Unlock Your Bike

    • Use the app to press the Available Bikes button at the docking station.
    • Select a bike and press Ride to unlock it via Bluetooth.
  4. Ride and Return

    • Limit rides to 4 hours to allow others to participate.
    • Return bikes to any docking station to end your ride.

Smart Lock Technology

Bicycles are equipped with smart locks that communicate with the On Bike Share app (Google Play/Apple App Store). Riders unlock bikes through Bluetooth and must dock them back at one of the stations to complete their ride.

  • Bicycles are not required to be returned to the original station but must be docked at one of the three designated locations.

    Riders must be 18 years or older.

  • Riders are encouraged to wear helmets and follow local traffic and trail regulations for safety.

Partnership and Funding

This program is maintained entirely through the Shelbyville Parks & Recreation Department and supported financially by community partners. The bicycles, purchased from Dynamic Bikes, are owned and operated by the department.
